Obituary of James Patrick Hickey

James Patrick Hickey was born in Denver CO on May 21, 1942. As a child during WWII he lived in California, Nebraska, and Virginia while his father was in the U.S. Navy. After the war the family moved to Sheridan WY, Fort Lyon Colorado, and to North Chicago, Illinois. He graduated from North Chicago High School in 1960. Patrick attended Oregon State College on an ROTC scholarship before joining the U.S. Navy. After the Navy he was a student at the University of Colorado in Boulder. He moved to Arizona, San Francisco, then to Crested Butte, Colorado, where he lived for many years. He was a botanist, a professional photographer and an expert on wildflowers in the Crested Butte area. He conducted many flower classes and guided many tours. A number of his photographs have appeared on calendars and in professional publications. He moved to Sedona, Arizona in 1989. He was a member of the Church of the Red Rocks where he was a Stephen Minister and a bible study participant. He was active with the Democratic Party. Patrick died during the last part of July at his home in Sedona. He is survived by a sister, Karen Hickey of Denver, cousins John Nabity of Omaha and Pat Nabity of Grand Junction Colorado, and by his beloved cats, Macoco and Tweets.
