Obituary of Marjorie Ann Langendam
Marjorie Ann “Mollie” Langendam, 87,passed away peacefully Thursday, July 4, 2013 at her residence at Country Care Assisted Living Home in Cottonwood, Arizona. A former resident of Rudyard and Plymouth, Michigan, Mollie was born May 8, 1926 in Fibre, Michigan. She was the daughter and one of seven children of Frederick and Gertrude (Dalman) Dowd. After graduating from Rudyard High Schoolin 1943, she attended Mercy College of Nursing in Grand Rapids, Michigan, graduating with a Diploma degree in Nursing in 1947. She married David J. Catton January 5, 1947, they later divorced. Mollie married John A. Langendam December 11, 1954. Mollies’ extensive nursing career included surgery, obstetrics, medical-surgical and nearly 25 years in geriatric nursing as director of nursing and as administrator until her retirement in 1983. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, playingcards, crafts, and was a die-hard Detroit Tigers, and Lions fan.Watching clouds, fall colors, and ships on the Great Lakes in Michigan, singing old time gospel hymns, doing crossword puzzles in ink, retelling family history and peanut butter fudge were many of the simple pleasures she enjoyed. She was a long-standing member of the Rudyard Tonk Card Club. Mollie made friends wherever she went, with her quick wit, contagious smile and gentle ways. She will be greatly missed by her many family and friends. Mollie is survived by son David J. (Romana) Catton Jr of Salt Lake City, Utah,and daughter Beth (Michael) Overly of Cottonwood, Arizona, granddaughters Hilary Catton and Jennifer (Rob)Woznick- Carney , great grand children Ozzly Woznick, Alabama Woznick, Jameson Carney and Quentin Carney of Salt Lake City, Utah. She is also survived by sisters Joyce Chadwick of Fibre, Michigan, Doris McDowell, Rudyard, Michigan, Beth (Herb) Spring of Plymouth, Michigan, sister-in law Darlene Dowd, Roseville, CA, brother - in law Ray Salo, Cedarville, MI and numerous nieces and nephews. She is survived by special friends Evelyn Staley, Cheboygan,Michigan, Mary and Bob Glashan Pitt Meadows, B.C., Gary Holliday Ocqueoc, Michigan, and her many Tonk Card Club girlfriends. Mollie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John in 1987, sisters Lora in 1997, and Helen in 2005, brother Edward (Bud) in 2010, brother-in-laws Clayton Loveless, Bill Chadwick, Leonard McDowell, Vern Malaska. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service in celebration of her life will be held in her beloved Michigan at a later date.
