Obituary of Richard D. Filkins
Richard D. Filkins,took final voyage on April 4, 2013
Mr. Fillkins was born in Missouri Valley, Iowa on Dec. 7, 1926. In 1941 the family moved west to Los Angeles. After he attended Garfield High School, he attended Merchant Marine Academy in Avalon, CA. After graduation he joined the Sailor Union of the Pacific where he is still a member. He served on ships during World War II, Korea, and Vietnam Wars. He served time on ships for 40 years.
He is preceeded in death by parents (Opal and Elmer), brother (Eugene), five sisters (Clar, Vivian, Opal, Billie and Beverly), great granddaughter Anna Maria and great grandson Connor.
He is survived by wife Isabel, two children Richard D Filkins Jr. (Robin) and Robin Watson both of Cottonwood, stepson Fred Cenera of Cottonwood, step daughter Mary Walters (Ted) of Monrovia, CA, Nine grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. Burial will take place at sea.
