Obituary of Clinton Allen Self

Clinton Allen Self, born Feb. 25, 1929 in Liberty, AZ, went home to be with His Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on January 18th, 2014 in his home surrounded by his family and under the loving care of his granddaughters. He is survived by his wife, Nancy (Frey) who was the love of his life for over 60 years whom he married on November 14, 1953; his three beloved children, daughter Karen Tavasci (Pat), son Keith Self (Cheri), son Bryan Self (Sharon); eight precious grandchildren, Aimee Self (Zach), Jessica Stokes (Ryan), Elisha Scott (Ben), Jarrod Tavasci (Katrina), Dylan Self (Katelyn), Ely Self, Tayler Stokes (Dusty), Kylie Self; nine dearly loved great grandchildren; his brothers Howard, Alvie and Melvin Self; numerous greatly loved nieces, nephews and many other family members and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Jesse and Sylvia Self, sisters Erma Dobyns, Mildred Patton, and brother Loyd (Spooks) Self. Clinton lived most of his life in Cornville, AZ and graduated from Clarkdale High School. At one time he and his horse were hired to drag poles over the hills for REA so the Verde Valley could have electricity and he also worked in the Jerome mines pumping oxygen to the miners. He worked predominately in ranching, farming, running heavy equipment, and was a certified Ford mechanic-working as Automotive Service Manager for Babbitt Ford. He served as County Road Superintendent and Road Inspector for Yavapai County and the City of Cottonwood for several years. Clinton served in the 25th Division, 27th Regiment Combat Team (the elite Wolfhounds) in Korea where he served with distinction, being awarded citations from both the American and Korean presidents, the combat infantry badge, and several bronze stars and the Purple Heart, among others. Clinton was rarely seen without a smile and a kind word. Known for his "Clint-isms", he was also a published Cowboy poet, an artist, a master story-teller and he enjoyed sharing a good joke. He loved his family, friends, his country and the Lord with every fiber of his being. He was a man of exceptional integrity, not simply telling people about God's love, but living it. Such an amazing man. He is greatly loved and will be greatly missed. His was a life well lived. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held 1:00pm Saturday Feb. 1st at Verde Valley Christian Church, 406 S 6th St. in Cottonwood.
