Obituary of Brian Michael Mack

Brian Michael Mack, aged 67, passed away from complications related to ALS on Monday November 25th 2019 at his home in Sedona, Arizona. Brian died peacefully in his sleep, with his loving wife of 40 years Karen (Page) Mack by his side.

Brian is survived by his sons John (Grace), and Zach, and his daughter Jessamin (Quiomi), and his brother Tommy. He also leaves behind four adored grandchildren, Niah, Quinn, Kallie and Ella and his sidekick Freckles.

Born April 19th, 1952 in San Diego, California where his parents were stationed at the Naval base, Brian spent his early years traveling and never really slowed down. With stops in Thailand, Jamaica, Mexico, England, Canada and the USA, "the original Daddy Mack" would go wherever the guitar, a raspy voice (and a job!) would take him. His love of music was one thing that never changed, even if the scenery did. Playing in bands and making music was as much a part of who Brian was as was his love of snakes and the desert. Never one to shy away from a midnight Mojave encounter with a venomous snake (or spider or scorpion), his fearlessness was only matched by his curiosity and desire to share his knowledge with whomever was crazy enough to accompany him. On those rare occasions when he couldn't talk his wife or kids into coming with him, he was more than happy to do it alone.

Although he was known as a bit of a loner, Brian did love the camaraderie and competitiveness of slow pitch softball. Starting with next to no experience in the early eighties, he never stopped playing and working at improving, until he won the 1994 National Championship in Calgary, Alberta, Canada with his team, Sunshine Farms. He continued to play for as long as he could, going wherever someone needed a third baseman with a slick glove and a bat with some pop. A musician, a sportsman, an explorer and so much more, Brian, B, Dad, Papa will be sorely missed by many.

As per his wishes Brian will be cremated with little fanfare. A celebration of Brian’s life will take place with the date and location shared once it is decided. Remember Brian with a song, a smile, a happy heart and a head full of good memories. Please consider donating to the ALS Foundation if you are so inclined.
