Obituary of Kathleen Marie Hodge
Kathleen Marie Hodge, 84, of Cottonwood, AZ passed away peacefully in her sleep on January 19, 2015 after a long illness.
Kathleen was born on August 13, 1930 in Oak Park, IL to John and Grace McGough. She and her 2 sisters grew up in New York City where she graduated from Queens College in 1952 with a Bachelors Degree in English Literature. On December 26, 1959 she married Robert G. Hodge and moved to Sao Paulo, Brazil for a year. They returned to New York in 1961 and lived in the city for 18 years. Her husband took early retirement in 1978 and moved the family to Southampton, NY where she lived until moving to Arizona in 1999.
Kathleen was an avid reader of both fiction and non-fiction and a huge fan of the New York Times crossword puzzle which she did every morning over coffee. She also enjoyed traveling, volunteer work, cooking and movie going. She had a beautiful smile that lit up any room she entered.
Kathleen is preceded in death by her husband Robert and sisters Patricia Meeker and Joan Koretsky and survived by her daughters Nancy Hodge, Kathy Scherich, son-in-law Dr. Thomas Scherich and many nieces and nephews. She was a wonderful human being (and mother) who will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
She will be interred next to her husband at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Southampton, NY; a memorial will take place this summer. Please contact her daughter Kathy at kathyhscherich@aol.com for more information.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to her favorite charity Mercy Corps (www.mercycorps.org).
