Obituary of Sarah Elizabeth Burrell

Sarah Elizabeth Burrell, 86, of Camp Verde, Arizona, passed peacefully on a full moon night, January 11, 2020. She was born on December 6, 1933 to Ruth Lane and A.P. Burgess in Sullivan, Missouri and was a big sister to Mike, Ruth Ann and Gene. Sally’s mom and step-dad, Ruth and Warner Harmon, were long time Camp Verde residents. Sally graduated from Del Norte High School in Crescent City, California and married Vernon L. Burrell on August 23, 1951. She gave birth to two daughters, Mary Kathryn (deceased) and Rebecca Rae, before moving to Arizona in 1959. Sally and Vernon managed Hermit’s Rest Trading Post at the Grand Canyon and Cameron Trading Post for the Fred Harvey Company in the 1960’s and 70’s. After her divorce, Sally became a Park Ranger for the City of Phoenix in 1981 until her retirement in 2001. She enjoyed road trips, square dancing, knitting, numerology, astrology, collecting crystals, Coca-Cola and was a talented artist. Sally is survived by her sister, Ruth Ann Harmon of Camp Verde; daughter Rebecca Staub (John) of Camp Verde; grandchildren, Wade, Wendy, Will and Chelsea; “honorary” grandchildren, James and Micah; great- grandchildren, Mallorie, Becca, Cody, Amberly and Joey; and numerous great-great grandchildren, nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. In lieu of flowers, memories and condolences can be shared here on her Tribute Wall. The family will have a private celebration of her life.
