I have so many memories of Romaine Ausman! Romaine and her husband John and children Carol, Evan, Susan (aka Jordan), Ellen and Edmund James were our next door neighbors in Socorro, NM. I used to babysit all those little ones!
My best memory: The beautiful wedding dress Romaine made.....
Romaine and my mother Harriett were great friends! Together, they made a beautiful wedding dress for my sister Kathy back in the mid 1960's. Kathy ended up eloping at the ripe old age of 16 years of age. Remember, this was the 1960's! That beautiful wedding dress ended up being worn by my other sister Gwen when she got married. Then, in the late 1960's, when I got married, Romaine and my mom once again got the scissors out and started cutting that same dress up to redesign it for me! Romaine was an amazing seamstress! We still have that beautiful wedding dress in our possession and it looks as beautiful today as it did 50 + years ago. Maybe one day, one of our granddaughters or great-granddaughters will end up wearing it as well!
My sincere condolences to Romaine's family and to her many, many friends.
