My dear Uncle Mark Westervelt was a huge hero in my life! He was an amazing man to so many especially to his family! He loved God first family second and everyone else in the communityI
I remember their first home in Camp Verde off Salt Creek highway where he began to raise his beautiful family! He would always take us out on outings to Chile's, Clear Creek, Jerome or wherever we could go! I admit those winding roads, back in the day, were very scary but he took us there and we all had a great time together! I remember my mom and dad would take us up on weekend in the old station wagon to visit my Westervelt family.
Uncle Mark, always welcoming us, gave us clever nicknames! Matt the Rat and Luke the Duke! For example!
Some sticking memories:
For Christmas he and my Aunt Colette gave me my first medical bag when I was in the first grade, burned a wart off my hand when I was in 5th grade, taking Grandma Wadlow in and loving her, pierced my ears when I was in 8th grade with Kim, and always teased me that I was 18 even though I was 20, 25, etc. Always looking out for priests,
the church, St Francis Cabrini. I learned from him to love God first, then your family then your friends!! He would always say, " Let's play tennis!! And, here's the team picks with a buy !! Let's go out and play!'!! No doubt he's playing right now!! I LOVE YOU AUNT COLETTE!!

Rest In Peace, Doc. You were so special to so many in the Verde and a shining example of what one individual can accomplish for his community. Our family is forever indebted to you. Ron looked on you as his second father and the memories made on your tennis court on those Wednesdays were some of the best he’s ever had. You will always be our favorite family doctor, not only for the excellent physical care but for the precious words of advice that have added to the quality of our lives immeasurably. We are sending much love to Colette and your entire family. ❤️ We planted four trees at home for the four family members to honor you, and Beau and Abbie have each planted one in their yards to remember a great mentor and friend.

I am so very sorry for your loss. My brothers and I were blessed by Westervelt hospitality as kids growing up together. And we have all been patients of Dr. Westervelt at one time or another. There are several siblings that I never met, but Marcus, Kim and Kirk were the same ages as Gary, myself (Michelle) and Jaimie (James Jr.) Sharpe. All my thoughts and prayers go out to all of you today and everyday.

Dr Westervelt delivered me and was my doctor up intil his retirement. When I was sick he would take care of me first then ask how everyone else was. Then we would chat about baseball. We spent more time on baseball. In Little League I was his bat boy. But he treated me like one of his players. I learned the fundamentals of the game and he taught me to hustle everywhere and to respect the game. Since his retirement we would always visit when we saw each other around town. He was a great man and will be missed.

Much Love to Colette and the entire Westervelt family. "Doc" was one of my Dads greatest friends. The positive influence he gave to my family was immeasurable. I'd also like to add that his legacy is unquestionable, as I've always looked up to Kirk and Justin in the way they carry themselves and treat people.
Truth, logic, Faith, Humor and Tennis. 6 hours of tennis on Wednesdays, Doc called the patrons "warriors" . The warriors would go for some friendship, some competition, a lot of fun, maybe a beer but they would especially go, to spend time with Mark.
Doc always shook your hand, looked you in the Eye and asked how you're doing. He meant it, he really cared. He Lobbed me to death and id always crush it out or hit it in the net, he knew it too but there was a lesson there and I miss them. If you hit a short shot he'd call you your moms name, so to Doc I was usually Tracy! Condolences to all the Family. The loss of a pillar is not easy.
Love and Prayers

Dr. Westerveldt was our family physician for so many years. Our first meeting was shortly after we moved to Camp Verde, in the late 1980's. Our youngest daughter, Amy, had fallen off her skateboard the day we moved into our new home, and split her chin open. It was a weekend, after hours, and we didn't know any local doctors yet. I found his number in the phonebook, and he met us at his office, butterflied her chin, and from that day on he became our one and only family doctor! I apologized for the call, and he informed me that he had more children than us, so he knew very well how it goes. I'm sorry for the families loss, and the communities. May he RIP. ❤

So sorry for your loss. Dr. Westervelt was always there for us. Our first born needed meds for the first 4 days of his life and I refused to leave the hospital without my baby. The doc called Brenda and they agreed to share the load. He met us at 7 am and then we went to the Westervelt home at 7 pm, next day was Brenda, then back to the Westervelt home. Colette welcomed us into their home and never made us feel anything but wanted and important. Always there to answer your questions. Truly missed.
