Obituary of Martha Carlee McKenzie
Martha Carlee Hight Mckenzie, 78, of Camp Verde entered into Heaven August 19, 2016. She was born in Texas and moved to Phoenix as a small child; she and her husband Pete made Camp Verde their home 9 years ago.
She lived a simple life and loved going to yard sales, playing bingo or just getting lost around town with her sister Dorothy, but most of all, she loved her family and the people in her life. If having 7 kids, 18 grandchildren and 50 great-grandchildren wasn’t enough, she also welcomed any and all to her home. She always made room for one more and when they left, they usually took with them a jar of pickles or jam that she canned.
Martha was a great cook of good old Southern cookin’ - it was rumored that she could make a whole meal out of flour and water. She loved reading and was an avid reader of mystery books - her favorite was Agatha Christie.
When times were good, she was grateful, when times were hard she would say “Be grateful for what you have.” She left behind a note that read “Don’t mourn my death, celebrate my life… Remember me with smile and laughter…If you remember me with sadness and tears, don’t remember me at all”.
Martha leaves behind her husband Carrol McKenzie “Pete”, daughters Cathy Nelson, Terrie Davis, Lisa Murphy and Sonja McKenzie, sons Jimmy Davis and Daran Davis “Blue”, daughter-in-law Patricia Davis and sons-in-law Steve Abel, Dale Rizzi and Carl Frederick “Jimmy”. She is preceded in death by her Father Albert Henry Hight and Mother Mattie Lou Edwards Hight, brothers Alfred, Tommy and Orville her sister Louise Trotter passed away the day before her and she lost her daughter Deborah Lynn Fleming several months ago.
A memorial service will be held at The Camp Verde Baptist Church at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, August 27, 2016.
