Obituary of Arnold Dewayne Barry

Arnold Dewayne (A.D.) Barry, 83, of Camp Verde, Arizona, passed away peacefully, Sunday, May 16, 2021 in his home surrounded by family. A.D. was born in Mangum, Oklahoma. He moved around a bit as a young boy and at 17 one of his uncles put him to work building roads. From there he joined the Air Force, stationed in South Africa, and honorably discharged in September of 1957. He joined the Reserves and was honorably discharged in July 1963. After being discharged from the United States Air Force in 1963, his next endeavor led him to Western Greyhound Lines where he stayed 25 years and was awarded the Silver Stripe of Honor, 25 years of safe, professional, courteous driving. And, as if that’s not enough driving, upon retiring from Greyhound he joined the Teamsters and drove Yellow Freight until 1998. Sometimes life takes us down unpaved roads that get rocky. We may not always understand how and why we end up there, but we always have a choice at how we choose to overcome obstacles and succeed. From admiring A.D.’s wall of fame, a person could see, in just a few moments, that he worked hard and chose to be successful. His many accomplishments included being a proud Veteran, an Officer for the American Legion, a past member of the Shriners (100 Million Dollar Club, supporting Shriners Hospitals) and the Masons. A.D. was known for his quick wit and humor. He always had a way of saying what was on his mind, and it may not always be what folks wanted to hear, but you accepted him as he was. His recent past time included watching old westerns (acting has come a long way since then) Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune. He enjoyed ending his days reading before turning in at night. He will be greatly missed by all those that knew and loved him. A.D. is survived by his 10 children, 19 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren. This was his juggling act. He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 43 years, she was his support for success. A memorial service for family to be held on later date.
