Obituary of Thomas A Meier

Thomas Allen Meier  (Dec 12^th 1943-October 20^th  2021) passed peacefully at home with a few friends, his brother Joe and Benson (his beloved dog) at his side, finally agreeing to embark on the adventure beyond this one.

Tom is survived by siblings Bruce, John, Maryanne, Joe, Jim, Bob and Barb. Born in Salinas, CA, and growing up in Tacoma, Washington State, Tom was a world traveler. From Asia to Africa, Guatemala to Nepal by his count he had brought his unique perspective to more than 130 countries. He explored his own back yard as well and when he moved from Seattle to Sedona AZ, over 20 years ago walked almost every trail and even those that didn’t exist.

Over the years Tom worked in Real Estate, the timber industry and had a couple of Post Offices. However, it was his creative brilliance, eye for the possibilities of unrelated objects, love of bling and lights coupled with a stubborn and dedicated determination to make a vision work for which we most remember him. Not willing to be labelled an artist, his ‘silly sticks’ and the wild beauty he created both within and without his house and garden, betrayed an artistic spirit.

Tom’s greatest gift was to create community, challenge us to be whatever we wanted to be, to play and embrace life. His final question to us is ‘What was all this about anyway?’  Tom’s answer was in how he lived – full on, with love and curiosity. From all who knew him over many  years in so many places, Thank you.
