Obituary of Richard Wallace Townsend
In Loving Memory of
Richard Wallace Townsend
1949-2022
Richard Wallace Townsend was called home on the morning of June 7, 2022, while surrounded by loved ones. He was welcomed into Heaven by his parents, Lynn and Ethel Townsend; his beloved son, Richard Wallace Townsend Jr.; and his adoring dog, Jesse. Born February 5, 1949, in Hackensack, NJ, Richard spent his childhood in Suffern, NY. Shortly after high school he enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he proudly served and protected his country. After his years of service, he began a career as an arborist. In 1974, he moved out west to Arizona where he eventually started a family and continued advancing his skills and a career in landscaping. By the early 1990’s he settled into Cottonwood, AZ with his family. His passion, knowledge, and hard work helped him to start his own successful company, Richard’s Landscape Construction where he and his sons proudly served the Verde Valley for over 20 years. Richard was an avid outdoorsman. He loved to hunt, fish, and camp. There was not one person that he met that he did not befriend. He was the most gracious host and loved to put on many gatherings with family and friends at his home and he always made the holidays extra special. Above all things, Richard was a loving and supportive father and grandfather. His joy and purpose came from his family. He has passed on traits to his family that will last generations. His impact and contributions to this world are immeasurable and he will be greatly missed, but never forgotten.
He is survived by his sister Lorraine Glaeser (Robert), his children Jeffrey, Jennifer, Matthew (Dalis), Lee (Angelica), and his 10 grandchildren Magdalena, Madison, Maile, Marshall, Max, Marley, Kannon, Beckett, Vada, and Wallace.
