Obituary of Michael James Battaglioli

Michael "Poppie" Battaglioli passed away on Sunday, January 3rd, 2016 at Verde Valley Medical Center in Cottonwood, Arizona. He was born on January 18, 1934 in Norwalk, Connecticut to his parents Carmelo Battaglioli and Josephine Pattacini. Poppie grew up in Connecticut surrounded by a large Italian family including aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews, and his brothers and sisters. He joined the Army and was stationed at Fort Lewis near Tacoma, Washington. Later he served in the U.S. Army Reserve. While stationed at Fort Lewis, Poppie married Gloria June Tattersall on January 21, 1955. Poppie and Nannie were about to celebrate their 61st Wedding Anniversary. Poppie enjoyed cooking, furniture making, clock building, coin collecting, and gardening. Poppie worked at many jobs over the years, sometimes 3 at a time, including as a driving instructor, security guard, welder, sheet metal fabricator, electrician, tire manufacturer, bread maker, among many others and retired as a produce inspector working for Safeway, Inc. After retiring he worked another 10 years as maintenance man, landscaper, repairman, bouncer, and PR representative for the McDonald's Restaurant in Sedona, Arizona owned by his daughter Susan Will. Poppie was preceded in death by his parents, Papa and Nana, and his sisters, Anne D. Anthony, Adeline D’Avanzo and Constance Eula. Poppie is survived by his spouse Nannie, and his children Mark Battaglioli of Hemet, CA, Susan Will of Phoenix, AZ, David Battaglioli of Granville, IA, and Debbie McKean of La Mirada, CA. Also by his sister Marie McNerney of Danbury, CT, and his brother Anthony Battaglioli of Ridgefield, CT. Poppie is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
