Obituary of Elma Lovene Weed

The stillness of heaven was disrupted on Saturday morning, January 23, 2016 by joyful sobs and jubilant shouts as 93 year old Elma Lovene Weed (Courtney) rushed into the arms of her Lord and Savior and was reunited with loved ones who eagerly awaited her arrival. Those of us who were left behind shed tears of grief and felt the heart wrenching pain of loss but we know that soon this pain will fade and we will share the joy of an earthly life celebrated and an eternal life of joy and peace begun. Mom was born September 28, 1922 in Kahoka, Missouri and grew up on a farm. She dedicated her life to raising her four children, putting us through school, and humbly ignored her many accomplishments – a few of these were working as a Rosie Riveter at the end of WWII, single handedly saving a man’s life from a burning house, and running a successful gas station, garage, and car wash for many years. She lived in the same home in Camp Verde for almost 70 years. Lovene Weed leaves behind four children – daughter Linda (Courtney) Callahan of Camp Verde and her husband “Butch” (Harold Callahan), son Kent Courtney of Lake Montezuma and his wife Jeannette, son Terry Courtney of Rockvale, Tennessee and his wife Rita, and son Larry Courtney of Pagosa Springs, Colorado and his wife Brenda. She has 11 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. Services are to be private per mom’s request and in lieu of flowers or cards the family is requesting donations be made to Verde Valley Community Hospice.
