Obituary of Melvin Lee Huber

Melvin “Mel” Lee Huber, educator, gardener, friend and mentor, was born in Mesa, Arizona, in 1922 and died at his home in Cottonwood, Arizona, January 7, 2018.

He gave service to his country in World War II and Korea as a Marine, to his community as an educator in the Peoria Unified School District, to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in many capacities most recently serving in the Mesa and Phoenix temples.

He was preceded in death by his wife La Ver Holladay, his daughter Charlotte (Jack) Williams, his wife Velma Louise Shepard and her son Craig Christensen. He is survived by his children Carolynn (John) Phelps, Catherine (Delwyn) Stander, Lawrence Lee (AnnMarie), David Lewis (Evelyn, his second wife’s children Terry (Eveonne) Christensen and daughter-in-law Ranae Thornton (Scott), as well as grandchildren and great grandchildren, extended family and friends whom he loved and who will miss him.

Funeral services will be Saturday, January 20, 2018 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Peoria Stake Center, 12951 N. 83rd Ave., Peoria, AZ at 1:00PM. Graveside services will be that same day at 10:00AM at the City of Mesa Cemetery, 1212 N. Center St., Mesa, AZ. In lieu of flowers Mel has asked that you take your sweetheart to lunch.
