Thanks so much for notifying me of Lorena's passing. I will notify our class. The first year of our nurses's training, Lorena and I were roommates the second semester. She was always a very quiet person. Then, about 3 to 4 years ago, she and her daughter, Jayne, came to Lincoln, for a Czech convention. Four old classmates that live in Lincoln, met with both of them for lunch. What fun we had. Lorena was not the quiet girl I remembered. She had blossomed into a lovely lady. We send our condolences to her family. She will be missed.

Mom loved being part of the wild bunch! She always shared her wonderful adventures with joy and excitement. She was a friend to all, someone to talk with, her shoulder was there to cry on and she listened with caring compassion. She loved to try new things and she loved spending time with her family - in fact just last September she travelled to Nebraska, South Dakota and Montana to see her brother and sisters, neices and nephews. Mom was creative -she could take tiny scraps of paper and make beautiful cards with encouraging words. She also painted china with such delicate brush strokes to produce an amazing piece, many of which she gave to others. Mom loved learning and became an RN. She studied the Czech language so she could read correspondence from emigrating family members written in Czech in the early 1900s. Mom loved everyone and her friendships ran deep from the heart. She served her neighbors, her church and her family. She travelled 2.5 hrs one way every week to the temple - that's dedication. The most important thing in Mom's life was her family, from her parents to her siblings, children, grand and great grandchildren. She loved her ancestors. Shad scrapbooks full of photos. She had a laugh that illed the room and was always up for an adventure, games, puzzles or just chatting. After she retired, she packed up everything, sold her home and took off without any destination in mind. She ended up in Cottonwood Arizona and had loved the area dearly and made many friends. She unexpectedly passed away peacefully in her sleep. Love you Mom!

Lorena Walker's own words: "My Story"
"I've always thought of myself as a plain Jane nobody from a small backwoods town in western Nebraska. I grew up on a farm and worked hard. By the time I was 14 yrs old I was doing the work of a hired man. I've always been an introvert, painfuy shy and self-conscious. But as I reflect on my life ---WOW! I have shoed horses, drove a combine, drove a caterpilar tractor. I could set 30 irrigating tubes in 15 minutes. I could saddle or harness the horses. I went to nursing school and became a registered nurse. I am a college graduate. I sang on TV. I was on the front page of the Denver Post. I was written up in Family Circle magazine. I remember Pearl Harbor, 9-11 and man's first landing on the moon. I was in 3rd grade before we had running water, electricity and a party line phone. My parents didn't get television until after I left home after high school. I've also repelled (that's where you jump off a cliff backwards), and I have flown an airplane. I have travelled to New England in the Fall and to Italy, Paris, London and Ireland. I can spin wool, knit, crochet, tat and embroider. I can paint porcelain. I can make greeting cards. I do genealogy and indexing. I went to the temple every week for 15 years and was an Ordinance worker for two years. All in all it has been a busy and interesting life. I am expecially grateful for my membership in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and for the comfort and the love my Savior has given me and the knowledge we will meet again in the next life."

Lorena was a very close friend. We were called 16 years ago to be a set apart Patron in the Mesa Temple. We went together for those 16 years at least once a week. About 10 years ago I fell and broke my hip. Lorena helped me to be able to go by coming by to pick me up and pushing me in a wheel chair to able me to go in to the temple, always with a smile and helping me in any way she could. This made the difference if I got to go or not. She always keep me informed of activities in Black Hills ward after I was moved in to Mingus ward away from all my friends. Lorena and Charlotte did not leave me out but always stayed true friends and loving sisters to me even if I was no longer in their ward. We started out 13 in the wild Bunch (This is a name given to us by a sweet Brother in our ward) Others left our group for other callings and sickness or even death till only 3 of the 13 remain. Now only 2 Lorena will be missed so so much. She will always be in my heart. She was a special person.

When we first moved to Pine Shadows, Lorena was one of the first to greet and welcome us. I had a quilt to work on and Lorena came several times to help. I would fix a spinach quiche and we would lunch and talk and sew. Lorena was very wise and her mind sharp as ever. Last Monday 12/13, at Denny's, we saw Lorena having lunch with Sister Cluff. They were laughing and having a good time, which was Lorena's typical spirit. I am so grateful I went over and wished Lorena an early Happy Birthday. Little did we know it would be a special "goodbye". We'll all miss her smile and cheerfulness
